Terms of Service
Introduction
StudyCap ("the Tool") aims to make studying more accessible and efficient by helping students summarize, clarify, and review lecture material. By using StudyCap, you agree to comply with these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
Scope of Service
Purpose: StudyCap is designed to complement—rather than replace—existing lecture content. Our features help students grasp complex concepts, create quizzes, and generate study notes from material they already have access to.
User Control: The Tool processes lecture captions (e.g., from lecture recordings) and slides only when the student chooses to upload or extract them. This ensures that you, the student, remain in full control of the content utilized by the Tool.
No Content Redistribution: StudyCap does not share, publish, or otherwise redistribute any extracted text or summaries. All materials remain accessible only to the individual student who has the right to the content in the first place.
Intellectual Property & Copyright
Ownership: StudyCap does not claim ownership of any lecture materials or copyrighted content processed by the Tool. Any lecture slides, captions, or other resources you provide for AI processing remain your property—or the property of their respective owners.
Respect for Copyright: We acknowledge and respect the intellectual property rights of universities and lecturers. By using StudyCap, you acknowledge that any copyrighted materials processed by the Tool are for personal study and review in accordance with applicable legal and university guidelines.
Student Responsibility
Proper Use: Students are solely responsible for ensuring that the content they upload or extract is in compliance with their institution's policies and any applicable laws. If your university policy restricts the use of AI tools for study aids, it is your responsibility to adhere to those rules.
Academic Integrity: While StudyCap can significantly assist with learning, students must abide by academic honesty policies. The Tool is intended to support comprehension—not to be used for plagiarism or other misconduct.
Liability & Indemnification
Service "As Is": StudyCap is provided on an "as is" basis. We make no guarantees that it will meet your requirements or that it will be free of errors.
Limitation of Liability: Under no circumstances will StudyCap be liable for direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use the Tool.
Indemnification: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StudyCap and its affiliates from any claims arising from your misuse of lecture content or any violation of these Terms.
Fair Use & Educational Purposes
Our mission is to create a supportive learning environment. StudyCap's features fall under fair use (educational purposes), as the tool simply reprocesses content that students already have legitimate access to. If a university or lecturer wishes to restrict usage of such a tool, they would similarly need to disallow the use of any other AI platform that helps students study—an approach that would impede broader educational progress.
Changes to the Terms
We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. If material changes are made, we will provide notice through our website or by other means so you can review and accept or reject the revised Terms before continuing to use StudyCap.
Contact Information
For any questions about these Terms or our Privacy Policy, please reach out to us at support@studycap.com. We are here to ensure that StudyCap continues to serve as a beneficial, secure, and respectful platform for all your study needs.
Thank you for choosing StudyCap. We are committed to your educational success and stand firmly behind the responsible, respectful use of AI-driven study tools.
